David has been with CLR Law since 2019, including as Partner. He later decided to transition to a consultant role enabling him to work from his home office in rural Northumberland.

David has vast experience as a litigator involving an array of cases including director/shareholder disputes, unfair prejudice petitions, insurance claims, construction disputes and professional negligence to name a few. He is adept at making urgent court applications and is well known for his tenacity.

David also accepts instructions in corporate and commercial matters including shareholders’ agreements, share sales, asset purchases, contract reviews/advice etc.

Recent litigation work includes the following:

  • A case which started life as an unfair prejudice petition and became a corporate acquisition when a third party entity purchased the target company’s entire shareholding for £4m, with David handling the corporate aspect for his shareholder client.
  • A professional negligence claim relating to an energy deal sold to a corporate client, which settled through correspondence for a six figure sum following the letter before action.
  • Applying for and obtaining an order for security for costs in connection with an aggressively pursued claim, which was derailed as a result.
  • Making a successful application to set aside judgment for a London based corporate banker, and subsequently negotiating an out of court settlement.
  • Advising a local business on a complex insurance claim relating to a fire at its premises.
  • Conducting mediation in a dispute concerning intellectual property elements and an alleged unpaid loan.

David has been a director for a B2C retail business with a multi-million pound turnover and he has served as company secretary for Tynegrain. These roles show the level of trust in David’s expertise.  With his key knowledge of day to day business operations, David’s client base benefits from his pragmatic and commercially informed advice.

In his spare time outside family and work life, David’s main interests are surfing and his dogs. Surfing has taken him to places far and wide including Cape Town, Sri Lanka and Lebanon. As for the dogs, he has a German Short Haired Pointer and Springer Spaniel.
